"No algorithm knows this area the way people who actually live here do."
The Town of Babylon is one of the most underrated places to live on Long Island. It has water access, walkable downtowns, great food, easy commuting, and a real sense of community. This guide covers what makes each part of the town worth knowing, from the village feel of Babylon Village to the bayfront life in Copiague and everything in between.
I live and work here. This is not a Zillow description. This is what I actually know about the town I call home.
The heart of it all. Babylon Village has a charming, walkable downtown with restaurants, shops, the Argyle Theater, and a real community feel. It sits right on the Great South Bay and has direct LIRR access into Penn Station, making it one of the most desirable spots in the entire town. Summer here is something special, with outdoor dining, live music, and easy access to the water.
One of the larger communities in the town, West Babylon is well established with strong school options, good shopping, and easy access to major roads. It has a residential, lived-in feel that appeals to people who want space and convenience without the premium of a waterfront address. Belmont Lake State Park is right here, offering trails, fishing, and open space year round.
North Babylon is a practical, well-connected community with easy access to the Southern State and Sunrise Highway. It has a solid mix of housing styles and is close to major shopping corridors. Adventureland, one of Long Island's most beloved family amusement parks, is right nearby. A great area for people who want to be centrally located with easy access to everything.
Lindenhurst has quietly become one of the more desirable spots in the town. It has its own LIRR station, a growing downtown restaurant and bar scene, and beautiful canal and bay access. Venetian Shores park sits right on the water and is a local favorite. The community vibe here is strong and it has attracted a younger crowd in recent years drawn to the waterfront lifestyle without the Babylon Village price point.
Amityville has real character. It has a walkable village area, an active arts and dining scene, and waterfront access along the bay. The village has done a lot to reinvigorate its downtown and there is genuine community pride here. It also has its own LIRR stop. Beyond the name, people who live here love it and tend to stay.
Copiague sits right along the Great South Bay and has some of the best bay access in the entire town. Tanner Park is a gem here, with a marina, beach, playground, and picnic areas. It is a tight-knit community that is often overlooked by people from outside the area, which means it still offers real value for buyers who know where to look.
Wyandanch has seen significant investment and development in recent years, including a revitalized downtown near the LIRR station. It has direct train access to the city and represents one of the more affordable entry points into the Town of Babylon. For buyers thinking long-term, this is an area worth paying attention to.
The Town of Babylon is one of the best-connected communities on Long Island for commuters. Five LIRR stations serve the town: Babylon Village, Lindenhurst, Amityville, Copiague, and Wyandanch. From Babylon Village, you can be at Penn Station in under an hour on express trains. The Southern State Parkway and Sunrise Highway run through the town giving easy car access in all directions. For those who work in the city but want Long Island living, this area delivers.
